Maracas St. Joseph Heritage Adventure and Cocoa Tour | Saturday 11 July 2026

Join the National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago for the Maracas St. Joseph Heritage Adventure and Cocoa Tour, a guided experience through cocoa heritage, sacred/community heritage, and natural heritage in Maracas Valley.

Taking place on Saturday 11 July 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., this tour invites participants to explore the stories, landscapes, and traditions that make Maracas St. Joseph an important part of Trinidad and Tobago’s heritage.

The tour includes an estate and cocoa tour at Ortinola Estate, a visit to the historic St. Michael the Archangel RC Church, and time at Maracas Waterfall, where participants may bathe if conditions and safety permit.

The Maracas St. Joseph area offers a layered heritage story. Ortinola Estate connects participants to Trinidad’s cocoa history and the agricultural landscapes that shaped communities, livelihoods, and exports. The National Trust records Ortinola as a former cocoa estate that supplied cocoa beans to Cadbury Brothers, with its Plantation Great House built in the 1890s and later restored between 2001 and 2003.

St. Joseph also sits within one of Trinidad’s most historically significant districts. The National Trust’s history timeline records the establishment of San José de Oruña, present-day St. Joseph, in 1592.

Maracas Waterfall adds a natural heritage dimension to the tour, allowing participants to experience the valley through its forested landscape, watercourses, and outdoor recreation. Discover 868 describes Maracas Waterfall as located in the Maracas St. Joseph Valley area of the Northern Range.

Together, these stops help tell a fuller story of place: cocoa, church, community, valley, and water.
