Explore the Western Isles — Offshore Landscapes, Maritime Routes & Forgotten Histories

A National Trust heritage boat tour through the islands and waterways that shaped maritime movement, defense, and settlement in the Gulf of Paria.
The Western Isles sit along one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most historically active maritime corridors. These islands and waterways once governed trade, movement, security, and access between the mainland, the Bocas, and the wider Caribbean.
This guided boat tour offers participants a rare opportunity to experience the Western Isles from the water, supported by expert interpretation that connects geography to history.
Participants will gain insight into:
  • The Western Isles chain, viewed from sea level
  • Historical maritime routes used for trade, defense, and movement
  • Coastal and offshore landmarks linked to colonial-era navigation
  • Stories of settlement, isolation, and strategic positioning in the Gulf of Paria
This tour is ideal for heritage enthusiasts, photographers, educators, and anyone interested in maritime history and offshore landscapes.
