Pelican island is the fourth largest island out of the Five islands and measures less than 4000 square metres. The island was first owned by C.Hobson, then purchased in 1866 by the Revell family. In the 1900’s it gained popularity as a holiday island for families of the upper class and other visitors to enjoy. During the Second World War, a degaussing station was built to facilitate metal hulled ships of the US Navy. Three concrete water tanks, a concrete veranda and foundation pillars still remain on the island. Pelican island is under the protection of the National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago as a heritage site.
