This site is the family home of the Hannays family of Arima. 

it is Masonry Pires with wood sills and timber floor 36″ above the ground. Porch floorboards are wide planks and possibly original. The site also features timber jealousies french doors with sidelights of Tiber adjustable jealousies. Fixed transom panel made up of timber bars. There are also examples of both functional and decorative fretwork and bars for ventilation of the structure. It appears to be wood framing with nogging made with river sand, river gravel, clay, and lime and in some areas plastered with cement.

 

The style of the structure suggests it being built in the 1930-40’s. The house was owned by the De Lisle family and rented to Mr. Henry and Mrs. Mudlyn Hannays who made it their family home. Being a home, the structure holds the familial stories and memories linked to Old Arima. The house stands on Farfan street which was historically a resendential area and stands as an example and testament to Arima’s history and cultural heritage.

 

Uniqueness: The condition of the house. It is in excellent condition as the current occupier paid special attention to keeping the same style.
