Description: While island nations emit less than 1% of the greenhouse gases that cause climate change, we are among the most vulnerable locations in the world to its negative impacts. Climate change is expected to result in a variety of environmental, social, and economic effects, including threats to natural habitats and historic heritage.  Join us for a conversation with our friends at the National Trust for the Cayman Islands and their youth activists to discuss the problem and ways that we can address it as a region.

 

About the Speaker:  Catherine Childs is the Environmental Programmes Manager for the National Trust for the Cayman Islands. She holds a master’s degree in Environmental Science with a post-graduate Certificate in Climate Change, is a registered Climate Change Professional (CC-P) and holds an IUCN professional certificate in Nature-based Solutions to the climate crisis. Cathy also created a carbon offset initiative to benefit local communities in the Cayman Islands through the protection of mangrove forests and the funding of solar energy installations on schools. She works to promote young Caymanians and facilitates their attendance every year at international climate meetings.
