Congratulations Dr. Kumar Mahabir

The National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago offers its congratulations to Dr. Kumar Mahabir on becoming Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (RHS) in recognition of his contribution to the history of indentureship in the Caribbean. The RHS was founded in 1868 and is one of the leading organizations for historians in the UK and internationally. Today, the RHS is the UK’s principal society advocating for historians and history.

Dr. Mahabir served as Vice Chairman of the National Trust from 2013-2014 and as Acting Chairman from 2015. Dr. Mahabir is a full-time faculty member teaching anthropology in the Department of Language and Cultural Studies at the University of Guyana and a Research Fellow of The Eccles Centre for American Studies – British Library (2022-23). In 2011 Dr. Kumar Mahabir received the Hummingbird Medal (Silver) for his loyal and devoted service to Trinidad and Tobago in the sphere of Education.

Dr. Mahabir is the author of sixteen (16) books and twenty-three (23) book chapters. Several of his publications are available at the National Trust’s resource library:

This prestigious honour is a testament to his exceptional contributions, dedication, and leadership in the field. The Trust looks forward to witnessing the continued impact of Dr. Mahabir’s work.
