Explore Princes Town — Faith, Food, Industry & Community Memory

A National Trust heritage and culinary tour exploring Princes Town’s religious landmarks, food traditions, industrial ruins, and sites of collective memory.

Princes Town sits at the crossroads of faith, food, labour, and resistance. It is a place where culinary traditions were born, religious communities took root, and industries rose and fell — leaving behind stories etched into landscape and memory.

This heritage and culinary tour offers a wide-ranging exploration of Princes Town’s layered history through hands-on experiences, guided interpretation, and visits to some of southern Trinidad’s most significant sites.

Participants will experience:

  • A DIY doubles-making activity in the birthplace of doubles, connecting food to community history
  • Guided visits to the First Presbyterian Church and one of the oldest mosques in Trinidad, reflecting Princes Town’s religious diversity
  • Viewing of the Glenroy Tunnel, a lesser-known relic of Trinidad’s railway system
  • Exploration of Devil’s Woodyard Mud Volcano, highlighting geological heritage
  • A visit to the site of the oldest Ramleela celebrations in Trinidad, connecting cultural performance to place
  • Viewing the ruins of the Usine Ste. Madeleine Sugar Factory, a reminder of the sugar industry’s impact
