Matelot Heritage and Adventure Tour | Saturday 29 August 2026

Journey to Trinidad’s North Coast with the National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago for the Matelot Heritage and Adventure Tour on Saturday 29 August.

This full-day experience explores Matelot as a living heritage community shaped by river, sea, faith, education, coastal livelihoods, and local knowledge. Participants will bathe at the mouth of the Matelot River, hike to Marcelle Waterfall, learn about village landmarks, and discover the traditions connected to sea moss harvesting.

The tour combines outdoor adventure with cultural interpretation, offering participants a meaningful way to experience the landscapes and stories of one of Trinidad’s most distinctive coastal villages.

Matelot holds an important place in Trinidad’s North Coast heritage. Its location, river mouth, coastline, community institutions, and local livelihoods reveal a story of resilience, environmental knowledge, faith, education, and village identity.

Through stops connected to Matelot RC Church, Matelot Secondary School, and the contribution of Sr. Rosario Hackshaw, participants will gain insight into the people and institutions that helped shape the village. The tour will also explore sea moss harvesting, a coastal practice connected to local knowledge, food traditions, and marine environments.
