Maracas Bay to Blanchicheusse
[ca-sidebar id=”12985″]

  • Maracas bay is bounded by prominent headlands on either side. Of the three rivers that drain into the bay, two of them are seasonal, and the Maracas River is perennial. The small swamp south of the North Coast was turned into a carpark to accommodate the large crowds that flock to Maracas Bay. There is a fishing village on the Western end of the bay. The beach itself is 1.8 km long and is landscaped with almond and coconut trees.
  • Las Cuevas Bay – 7km East of Maracas bay is Las Cuevas bay. It spans 2.2 km, and gets its name (cuevas means caves in Spanish) from small caves at both ends of the bay and notches in the low steep cliffs at the eastern end of the beach. The Cuaraguate River meanders through flat land behind the Western end of the beach.
  • L’Anse Martin is located between Las Cuevas Bay and Blanchisseuse Bay along the North Coast Road. It is 85 m long, and welcomes plenty of weekend visitors who come to swim and surf.
  • Blanchisseuse Bay/ Marianne is 11km East of Las Cuevas Bay on the Eastern side of the Blanchisseuse upper village. A sign saying “Wilson’s Trace” leads down to the beach from the North Coast Road. Almost the entire beach is backed by a low plain covered with coconut palms, almond and mangrove trees.
