A historic district is a section of a town or city where a significant concentration, connection, or continuity of sites, structures, buildings or objects unite historically or aesthetically by plan or physical development. The Government of Trinidad and Tobago declared eight (8) Woodford square sites as the Woodford Square Heritage District on December 18th, 2014. This was the first of its kind. These sites are: The Red House, The Old Fire Station, The Holy Trinity Cathedral, The Old Public Library, The Old Police Headquarters, The Cabildo Building, The Greyfriars Church, and The “Conquerabia” mural on City Hall by Carlisle Chang. The area around and including Woodford Square contains the largest number of important civic buildings in close proximity which, by virtue of their beautiful architecture and outstanding design capture the country’s diverse, vibrant and rich history.
